POWER QUALITY ANALYSIS IN AUSTRALIA

Our Services
Power-Quality-Analysis

Care Labs provides power quality analysis to businesses all over Australia. Our goal is to protect your electrical installations, electrical equipment, and appliances from all possible issues caused by fluctuations in the power supply.

Many companies as well as an increasing number of private customers, today have a variety of data collection, monitoring, and instrumentation equipment that is highly vulnerable to fluctuations in the power supply. While most electrical products are designed to withstand certain supply variations, very few are designed to withstand the spectrum of voltage fluctuations that are a common characteristic of distributed electricity.

Care Labs professional experts will assist in resolving power quality issues in the areas of equipment installation, control, protection, and power conditioning. The service will comprise – obtaining detailed information about your appliance that can help you consider the sources of supply fluctuations, the risks to specific equipment, and the available safety measures as per the Australian Standard – AS/NZS 61000.

Aim of Power Quality Analysis:

  1. The evaluation of inconsistencies between the electrical system and the load.
  2. Evaluating the work environment to improve simulation approaches to provide power quality solutions
  3. To predict the functioning and efficiency of load equipment
  4. Improve the machine’s power factor and reliability.
  5. Avoid consumption of excess energy
  6. To prevent breakdowns and interruptions.
  7. To reduce power quality anomalies such as harmonics, spikes, and transients.
  8. Assist in avoiding voltage/frequency surges and PLC hang-ups.
  9. To avoid transformer overheating, capacitor explosion, and nuisance tripping, among several other things.
  10. Significantly decrease the utility bill
  11. Increase the lifespan of the electrical network and its elements.
  12. Check electrical apparatus to ensure that it can withstand variations.

Need for Power Quality Analysis in Australia:

All electrical networks suffer supply interruptions, which occur more often when power lines are disrupted by storms, calamities, or accidents. Power supply fluctuation is quite natural.

There are three categories of fluctuations, disturbances, and distortions in the characteristics of power supplied by an electricity network:

1.Frequency deviations – where a frequency is beyond the natural range of frequency.

2.Voltage disturbances – where the voltage shape is preserved but the voltage amplitude is beyond the normal

2.1 Short duration variations include voltage sag (dip) and voltage swells of up to one minute in duration.

2.2 Long duration fluctuations include prolonged under voltages and overvoltage lasting for more than one minute.

2.3 Unbalanced voltage – where the load is improperly distributed across the phases leading to significant heating of the equipment.

2.4 Differences in voltage between neutral and earth

3.Disturbances caused by distortion – where the voltage shape is non-uniform or non-sinusoidal.

3.1 Waveform distortions: Harmonics and inter-harmonics that result in the heating up of devices, increased losses, inefficient power consumption, and resonance issues.

3.2 Transients that occur for less than one-tenth of a second in duration but are capable of degrading the contact surface of switches, induce inefficiency in the system and lead to pre-mature failure of motor drives and control.

Power Quality Study and Analysis in Australia for Companies

What Does Power Quality Analysis Include?

Various power quality disturbances require different approaches to be identified, few of these approaches are:

  • Harmonic Analysis: This involves the use of computer algorithms to identify and predict potential harmonic problems, as well as reduction techniques.
  • Analysis of Surges and Transients: The transients and surges will be identified in this study.
  • Analysis of Voltage Dips and Swells: This analysis would track the short-term decline and rise of voltage, as well as its value and path.
  • Reactive Power Analysis This analysis will assess the preferred reactive power at the distribution and load ends.
  • Analysis of Captive Power: This study would quantify and synchronize captive power in order to meet demand while reducing energy surcharges and fuel consumption.
  • Load Flow Analysis: Based on the defined operating conditions, this study forecasts power flow magnitudes, power factor, voltage levels, and losses in system branches.

At Care Labs, we are committed to providing the best possible service to improve the quality and reliability of your electrical installation for the benefit of all its consumers.
