Motor Start Analysis

CareLabs‘ Motor start study and analysis service is available to businesses in Sweden. Our motor start analysis service’s primary purpose is to identify any odd occurrences that may occur during the start of a large motor. Before starting an electric motor, it is critical to do more than simply ensure that the motor is correctly connected to the main power supply.

Frequent annoyance tripping, high nominal currents, and lights that flicker or fade are all signs of a malfunctioning electrical system. CareLabs professionals will come to your location to capture installation data for your motors from the past and current. The acquired data and manufacturer requirements are then employed in mathematical models to predict negative events and devise countermeasures.

Motor starting techniques may be investigated using static and dynamic models. The study of dynamic motor beginning circumstances, including but not limited to:

  • The load flow solution is modelled using the starting impedance of the electric motor.
  • During starting, the voltage drop approach is used to measure the current in a motor, whereas the short-circuit method is utilized in pre-fault short circuit circumstances.
  • When a precise dynamic model of the electric motor circuit and load-torque characteristics is available, the effect of motor starting may be computed using a traditional transient stability technique in combination with a dynamic model of the electric motor.
  • Instead of a comprehensive dynamic model of the electric motor, transient stability simulations can be employed.
Sweden Should Carry Out a Motor Start Study:

Electric motors are widely employed in today’s production processes, and their size is increasing at an exponential rate. If you switch on a large motor linked to the line, the electric motor, any surrounding loads, and even buses further away may be severely impacted. To start an electric motor, a terminal voltage of 80% or greater of the prescribed voltage is required. Because a motor’s load torque is proportional to the square of the terminal voltage, every change in voltage has an instantaneous influence on the motor’s load torque characteristic.

If the voltage drop is significant enough, the strain on the operating machines may approach their “breakdown torque,” forcing them to slow down or stop completely. Other types of loads, such as electrical equipment, delicate control systems, lighting loads, and so on, are also affected by the voltage drop. As a result, if the beginning current is too high, all systems that service a constant load will demand additional current since these decreases terminal voltage. Furthermore, problematic low-voltage relays have been discovered.

When Should I Perform a Motor Start Analysis?
  • Prior to or during the purchase of a large engine.
  • In the absence of a generator and if the KVA rating of the motor exceeds 30% of the base KVA rating of the supply transformer.
  • If the motor rating exceeds 10 to 15% of the generator’s KVA rating and the generator is the only source of power for the system, the generator must be replaced.
  • If a process in an industry needs the start of many motors at the same time, a motor start analysis may be required.
  • Voltage drop issues are exacerbated when starting a high-power motor, which is especially true for low-power systems. Understanding the origins of motors is essential for comprehending the output of tiny systems with generators.
Evaluating the Utility of Motor Start:

Motor starting experiments Find a motor or a method of starting it that has the proper speed and torque parameters for the project. Certain loads must be accelerated under strict supervision to avoid exceeding the torque constraints of the equipment. A motor start study may be used to examine the shaft of the motor at any moment.

As a result, it may be used to estimate the maximum torque that the machinery can withstand. Motor beginning research is required to determine whether or not an electric motor can start and accelerate effectively, as well as how starting affects the machine’s voltage.

CareLabs’ skilled technicians can perform motor start tests so you can learn more about the effectiveness of your electric motor. Motor start analysis is available in all major cities, including Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmo, and Uppsala.
