Power System Study and Analysis

CareLabs provides electrical installation services such as electrical safety inspections, simulations of electrical system design, power quality analysis studies, and power system research and analysis.

ETAP (Electrical Transient Analysis Program), the premier tool for power system transient analysis, is used by our team of electrical specialists to conduct load flow and short circuit studies, protective device coordination studies, harmonic emission and filter design studies, transient analysis, and network stability studies. It enables us to collaborate directly with our clients to devise and supply the finest power compensation and solutions.

What Is the Purpose of a Power System Analysis Study?

Every industrial or commercial structure needs a steady, dependable, and well-maintained power system. Even a little power loss or failure can create key issues, such as extended downtime, damage to critical equipment, and the expense of repairing it.

A power system analysis study might be performed on your building’s power system regularly to ensure it is safe, efficient, and dependable in both normal and abnormal conditions. A power system must be thoroughly analyzed at every stage of design, installation, and operation. We will investigate and analyze the power system using the ETAP software program to gain a sense of how it will perform under normal conditions and when a fault occurs rapidly. It is a collection of engineering analytic studies that examine how an electric power system responds to events across various time periods, such as transient, dynamic, and static.

Many different studies may be used to determine the state of your facility’s electrical system. It might be included in a report on a power system analysis. Here are a couple such examples:

  • The circuit breaker
  • Putting together a security plan
  • Load Movement
  • Continuously changing evaluations
  • Arc Flash: Investigating It
  • How well does power work?
  • Harmonics research
  • Starting up the engine
  • Earth science research

It enables organizations to create a standard for various aspects of plant operation, particularly the electrical safety program. These studies may prove that operations are safe and dependable.

A Load Flow Analysis:

Load flow studies allow you to determine the voltages and currents in various portions of the network and select the proper rated equipment. The built-in load flow function in ETAP allows you to learn about a power system’s voltages and currents, as well as how much power is being utilized and its power factor.

Short Circuit Research:

Short-circuit studies are required to determine how a power system functions when there is a problem. Doing short circuit investigations by hand takes a long time, and using software like ETAP that can perform the job properly is significantly faster. ETAP is used to simulate system protection devices and determine the effects of 3-phase, L-G, L-L, and L-L-G failures on distribution systems.

Transient Investigation:

The magnitude and form of overvoltage and current spikes induced by lightning strikes and switching operations are estimated in transient studies. You can determine how much insulation and surge protection you require based on the results.

Protection Coordination Research:

This research is designed to ensure that your system’s security components are functioning properly. It checks to determine if they are the correct size and fit the item they are protecting.

In general, the following critical phases are included in our power system analysis research process:

  • How to Obtain Data
  • Data analysis and client meetings
  • Obtaining equipment information
  • A single-line diagram model
  • ETAP power system simulation
  • Examine the short circuit and load flow.
  • Investigate ways to coordinate protection.
  • An arc flash analysis
  • A glance at the entire research report
  • Risk assessment and risk management
  • Project management
The parts of CareLabs' power system analysis are as follows:
  • Opportunities to reduce energy use and expenditures.
  • Reports that highlight potential problems.
  • Solutions suggestions
  • Information on how and where energy is used.
  • Confirmation of protective device ratings.
  • Assist in preventing damage and injury.
  • Harmonics and transients’ effects

In our power system analysis studies, we examine the client’s electrical system and give recommendations on how to improve its performance and ensure it always has power. We examine and analyze electricity systems in major cities including Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim, and Stavanger.
