How to Perform a Power Quality Analysis in Brazil?

Power quality is the capacity of equipment to utilize the energy given to it. High energy consumption and bills, high maintenance costs, direct economic effects, production loss, unrecoverable downtime and resources, and equipment instability and failure are all results of power quality problems.

Any organization must evaluate energy management, and power quality must be evaluated as part of any energy management program. CareLabs offers several services that handle various energy-related concerns. We provide power quality research and analysis services based on our knowledge in this field.

Problems with Electricity Quality:

Quality of power supply is a more sophisticated and nuanced metric than dependability. It is not a matter of supply availability, but of the appropriateness and compatibility of the electrical supply.

Power quality variations can be split into two categories:

Disruptions:

When there is an irregularity in the voltage or current, disturbances arise. When the peak magnitude exceeds a predetermined threshold, transient voltages can be recognized. RMS voltage fluctuations like sags, surges, and interruptions can be recognized when the RMS variation exceeds a set limit.

Variations in steady-state conditions:

Fluctuations in RMS voltage and distortion of harmonic waves are examples of steady-state variations. Voltage and current must be measured over time to sample these fluctuations. This sampled data is most effectively presented as an amount of voltage distortion over time, and then analyzed using techniques such as the average distortion level, which is 95% unlikely to be surpassed, etc.

Among the factors that affect supply quality are:

  • Voltage stability
  • Frequency of delivery
  • Voltage dips
  • Voltage spikes
  • Transient voltages
  • Harmonic deviances
  • Radiofrequency estimate

The bulk of these components are challenging to recognize and observe. Typically, its examination requires the use of specialized testing equipment, and it must be conducted by certified technicians or engineers.

Voltage Constant:

The steady-state voltage levels of the electrical system fluctuate regularly in response to load and other system events. In general, voltage levels tend to decrease as the load increases. Similarly, voltage levels rise when a load is removed.

Unbalanced Voltage:

It alludes to a change in the phase angle displacement or three-phase supply value. Unbalanced loads and unbalanced circuit impedances can also contribute to it. It results in equipment failure, heat effects, and efficiency loss.

Variations in Voltage:

Voltage sags are momentary decreases in the RMS supply voltage ranging between 0.5 cycles and one minute. Voltage swells are transient increases in RMS supply voltage over a threshold limit between 0.5 cycles and one minute.

Supply Frequency:

The alternation rate of the supply voltage wave is known as the supply frequency. The National Electricity Market’s frequency standards are established by NEMMCO (National Electricity Market Management Company), the National Electricity Market Management Company. Outside of the National Electricity Market, the local producing authority determines frequency norms.

Harmonics Deformation:

It is a periodic, consistent distortion of the source voltage or current waveform. Excessive harmonics can cause extra losses, flickering light, malfunctions, radio interference, motor vibrations, and poor operation of sensitive equipment.

CareLabs' Power Quality Analysis Procedure:

  • The objective of the power quality survey and the on-site evaluation are specified.
  • Draw a one-line schematic of the full electrical system as you continue your investigation.
  • At various locations along the distribution end, a power analyzer is connected to gather data from each individual system.
  • Continuing the distribution system as seen in the line diagram. In addition to examining and analysing the acquired data, extra analysis is conducted.
  • Submission of a report and proposal of solutions

Our team of highly educated experts can assist you in resolving power quality concerns. A comprehensive system study and analysis guarantees that your power quality is at its highest level. Contact us for further information about our power quality analysis service!
