When a Vietnamese facility's electrical demand grows — new production capacity, additional machinery, expanded floor space — the network built for the original design load faces two separate questions it may no longer answer safely on its own: can it carry the new load without exceeding equipment ratings, and can its protective devices still interrupt a fault safely once the system configuration has changed. These are the two questions load flow and short-circuit analysis are built to answer.
Load flow analysis solves the steady-state operating condition of the network for a given generation and load configuration — the voltages at each node, the real and reactive power on each branch, and the losses along the way — which is the basis for practical planning decisions: whether a line can be taken offline for maintenance without overloading what remains, and whether transformer taps and reactive power compensation are correctly placed for current demand. Short-circuit analysis calculates, separately, how much fault current would flow at each point in the network if a fault occurred there — a figure that generally rises whenever generation or transformer capacity is added, which means growth that passes a load flow check can still leave protective devices sized for a fault current that no longer matches reality.
