How to Conduct a Power Quality Analysis in Portugal?

Power quality is the efficiency with which a piece of equipment utilizes the provided energy. Difficulties with power quality result in excessive energy consumption and bills, expensive maintenance expenses, direct economic effects, lost productivity, downtime and valuable resources, and unstable or malfunctioning equipment. Every organization must address energy management, and every energy management program must incorporate power quality. CareLabs provides a variety of services to solve a vast array of energy-related issues. Based on our knowledge in the business, we provide services for evaluating and analysing power quality.

Difficulties with the Electric Supply:

Reliability is a more sophisticated and delicate indication than power supply quality. It is immaterial whether there is an adequate supply or not. The question is whether the source can be utilized.

There are two types of power quality alterations:

Disruptions:

Incorrect voltage or current may result in a disturbance. When a threshold is reached, the peak value of a transient voltage may be determined. When the RMS variation exceeds a certain threshold, RMS voltage variations such as dips, swells, and interruptions become noticeable.

Variations Relative to the Constant:

Fluctuations in the steady-state include variations in the RMS voltage and harmonic wave distortion. Voltage and current must be monitored over time to track these changes. This example data depicts the magnitude of voltage distortion over time most effectively. The average degree of distortion, which has a 95% probability of not being surpassed, may then be analyzed using various techniques.

Among the factors influencing supplier quality are:

  • Voltage consistency
  • The frequency with which it is accessible
  • Voltage dips
  • Voltage spikes
  • Voltage variations
  • Harmonic adjustments
  • Radio frequency estimation

Most of these things are difficult to view and identify. Typically, specific testing equipment is required to measure them, and only skilled employees or engineers should conduct the tests.

Voltage Constant:

Due to load and other system events, the steady-state voltage levels of an electrical system are continually changing. Voltage levels decrease as the load increases. Similarly, when a load is removed, the voltage rises.

Inequitable Voltage:

It is a discrepancy in the value or phase angle of the three-phase supply. Unbalanced circuit impedances and unbalanced loads can also cause it. It causes things to heat up, degrades equipment, and diminishes their efficacy.

Voltage Variations:

Voltage sags are brief, RMS supply voltage drops lasting between 0.5 and 1 minute. Voltage swells are brief increases in the RMS supply voltage that surpass a threshold of 0.5 cycles to one minute.

How Often Are They Advertised:

The supply frequency is the fluctuation rate of the voltage waves. NEMMCO oversees the National Electricity Market (National Electricity Market Management Company). Outside of the National Electricity Market, the frequency norms are determined by the local producing authority.

Harmonic Adjustments:

It is a periodic variation in the supply voltage or current pattern. Additional harmonics can result in greater losses, flickering lights, malfunctions, radio interference, motor vibrations, and ineffectiveness of sensitive equipment.

CareLabs’ method for analysing power quality is as follows:

  • Both the aim and evaluation of the power quality survey are reported.
  • As your investigation progresses, create a one-line schematic of the whole electrical system.
  • At the distribution end, several power analyzer connections are built to gather data from each individual system.
  • Maintaining the network of distribution as represented in the one-line figure.
  • Additionally, to studying and analysing the acquired data, additional analysis is conducted.
  • Report submitted with recommended corrections

Our extremely trained staff can assist you in determining how to resolve power quality issues. Your system’s power quality will be at its greatest if you undertake comprehensive research and analysis. If you are interested in learning more about our power quality analysis service, please contact us.
