Power quality, at its core, is about whether an electrical distribution system reliably sustains the correct functioning of the loads connected to it. When it doesn't, the underlying principle for diagnosing why is always the same: measure the actual electrical parameters at the point where the problem shows up, rather than assuming the cause.
The parameters that matter are voltage RMS, current, power factor, voltage levels, and losses across branches of the system, measured under the facility's actual operating conditions. Poor power quality typically traces back to one of a small set of causes: improper wiring, incorrect grounding, unbalanced loads, or improperly protected equipment — any of which can send electrical noise through the system. Because facilities often share infrastructure, a disturbance originating in one part of a system can spread to affect others on the same subsystem; harmonic disturbances in particular can propagate this way if not addressed with proper design practice and verified mitigation tools.
