The short circuit analysis is required in order to provide data for the selection of protective devices, their settings and stability of system operation. These faults, may occur in all three phases symmetrically, or may be asymmetrically.

Using ETAP short circuit module, we analyse the effect of both balanced and unbalanced short circuit faults and comparing these results against manufacturer short circuit ratings. Then determine optimal and worst-case operating conditions of fault current, device duty with plots and reports. Overstressed equipment is displayed on the single-line diagram, and in reports.

Fault in one location should not affect the function of another critical element in electrical network. Such cases may occur if protective devices are not properly coordinated among other resulting in supply interruption which was not required. With coordinated power system, nearest protective device will operate first so that power outage is minimized.
