Need for Regular Electric Installation Condition Check:

During the past two years period, hospitalized cases with electrical injuries are 806 and among those cases over 50 fatal electrical injuries are reported.

It’s easy to take electric supply for granted – just flick a switch and the power comes on. But often overlook the inherent danger associate with electricity that can cause shocks, severe burns, injuries, and death, as well as premise damage from fires and/or explosions.

In some cases, we might get no warning of danger to come. With a proper management system of inspecting and testing, you can protect your property and workers.

Electrical installation testing and inspection are essential as power system deteriorate with age and use. This is due to various factors such as damage, corrosion, wear & tear, faulty, old wiring, excessive electrical loading, and environmental conditions.

Regular inspection, testing, and assessment can prevent major outages or equipment failures by finding faults before they become critical. Also, it is used to check whether installations are in a satisfactory condition for continued use and to reduce the risk of an electrical fire.

Early detection of faults can save consumers a lot of downtimes, financial impact, and hassles by allowing electrical professionals to repair faulty parts at a suitable time, rather than under emergency conditions.

What is an Electrical Installation Condition Report?

An Electrical Installation Condition Report is not a certificate to say that your building is safe. It is used to highlight all the potential problems with your electrical installation.

If you’re a property owner, it’s your responsibility to ensure the safe condition of your installations and the safety of your workers.

Australian Standard AS3019 sets out the requirements for inspection, testing for periodic verification of electrical Installation.

All commercial and industrial properties need to have an electrical installation condition report completed regularly. Electrical installation checks and testing can be carried out on a frequency of every 3 years for lower-risk sites, whilst a 1-yearly inspection and testing might opt for higher-risk sites.

EICR Testing and Inspection:

  • Continuity testing
  • Insulation resistance testing
  • Polarity Testing

Live Testing:

These tests are performed to check the preventive maintenance capabilities of the electric installations. Live testing includes:

  • Earth loop testing
  • RCD testing
